My sister, Linda, and I used to sing that song very loudly every time we entered the state from whatever state we were living in at the time and I didn't break the tradition on Wednesday when we crossed the line! Right away I began to see the Indian names of towns I remember as a kid...Muskogee, Chickasha, Okmulgee, Weleetka,,,,names I grew up with and that somehow give me the warm feeling of home.
We have been here in Stroud, Oklahoma, headquarters of the Sac and Fox Nation, where Linda and I were born, having a wonderful time with cousins and friends of many years. We are parked at the country home of Brenda and Eddy Edwards (Brenda and I were probably in Cradle Roll together at the Stroud Assembly of God church when we were babies!) Brenda's brother, Jerry, married my sister, Saralyne.
We had a great visit with cousins Robbie and Dwayne Hoppes last night. This morning, we had breakfast with cousins at the Rock Cafe, which was there when I was a kid and looked exactly the same!!!. Sitting at the front next to me in the picture is my BFF cousin Betty Cheryl Carroll. We were thick as thieves!!!

Then my cousins, Betty and Sheila drove me all over the place to see the sites of my childhood memories and to reminisce. This is a picture of the little house my daddy built when I was a baby. It has since been moved from the oil lease property where he built it. The second picture is of the property where he originally built it (where I was born). When you move around as much as we did growing up, you don't realize how much you miss that sense of belonging!
I got to put flowers on my parents' graves - something I haven't been able to do in years. It was a very special day!

Brenda and Eddy made a wonderful dinner for us and her two sisters and brother-in-law (Shirley and Larry, and Margaret) tonight. It has been at least 15 years since I've seen these dear folks and I'm so thankful we have had this time with them all! I took my phone to take pictures and was having
such a good time that I completely forgot!!!
We will have breakfast again in the morning at the Rock Cafe with the cousins and then will start north to the next stop.
Thank you Stroud friends and family for a wonderful visit! It will NOT be another 15 years before we do it again!!
Love, Vicki

Is quite an experience for me as well seeing the pictures!
