Badlands Bound

We drove through the Badlands in South Dakota on Monday. I couldn't help thinking about those outlaws in the old movies who were supposed to have had hide-outs in the Badlands. I can't imagine anyone deliberately going in there! On the top where you drive, it's a beautiful mesa grassland, then it just falls off into these crazy mountain-like formations. You can even see places where the mesa is still falling and in another million years, will probably look like that as well!

We were so excited to see big horn sheep grazing at the edge of a cliff. They were females with their babies. So cute! We also saw prairie dogs - lots of them! The picture of a field with white spots all over it is one of their "towns" and the white spots are mounds.

We saw real cowboys working cattle on a real roundup. We stopped on the side of the highway to watch for a bit. It made me want to get back on a horse again, but too old for that, I'm afraid!

We are in Buffalo, Wyoming for tonight and tomorrow night. On our way here we could see the Grand Tetons to the south. Can't wait to get close to them. They are breath-taking!

On Friday, we will move on to our campsite outside of Yellowstone. Sooooo Excited!!! I hope it's all I remember it to be.

Love y'all!

Vicki
